DaimlerChrysler's Newark plant donates to scholarship fund
DaimlerChrysler Corp.'s Durango plant in Newark has donated $200,000 to establish a scholarship fund at the Delaware Community Foundation. The scholarship will help Delaware students who are seeking post-secondary education degrees in technical fields such as design, engineering, manufacturing and automotive repair. The foundation will award 20 $1,000 scholarships a year. To qualify, students must be Delaware residents younger than 23 with a high school diploma or equivalent and demonstrate a need for financial aid.
American engineering council presents '04 excellence awards
The American Council of Engineering Companies of Delaware recently presented the 2004 Engineering Excellence Awards at the Engineering Week Banquet at DuPont Country Club in Rockland. Duffield Associates received the Grand Conceptor Award for the Win Win Wall project in Delaware City; Century Engineering received the Conceptor Award for the Northern Delaware Greenway project; Becker Morgan Group received the Honor Award for the Sussex Central School project; Pennoni Associates received the Honor Award for the Market Street renovation project in Wilmington; and Mahhaffy & Associates received the HVAC Award for the police headquarters project in Dover.
Cephalon chief to speak Monday on biotech, life sciences growth
Cephalon's chief executive, Frank Baldino Jr., will speak at the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce's annual dinner Monday at the Wyndham Hotel in Wilmington. Baldino plans to speak on the potential for growth in biotech and life sciences in the region, chamber official Philip Birk said. The state's congressional delegation and state and local leaders are expected to attend the event, which is sold out. In February, West Chester, Pa.-based Cephalon became only the ninth biotech firm to notch $1 billion in annual sales. The firm makes the narcolepsy drug Provigil and cancer pain reliever Actiq.
