Capital Grants
Capital grants have been awarded since 1990 to help
nonprofit agencies meet the community's needs. Obtaining land,
renovating or expanding facilities and updating equipment to keep
pace with technology are some of the hurdles a nonprofit
organization faces. Organizations from across our state have turned
to the DCF for help funding capital needs of all sizes, whether
purchasing a facility, constructing a new wing or adding a kitchen.
More than half of the unrestricted grants awarded by
the Delaware Community Foundation has been for capital projects
Thirty agencies
received $310,000 in grants in 2003
for
a total of 234 capital grants and $2,435,174 in funding distributed
by the DCF since 1990.
Funding for capital grants comes primarily from the State of
Delaware Fund, a $2 million fund established by the Delaware General
Assembly in 1989. That initial investment has resulted in more than $1.5 million being channeled back into the community.
One unique aspect of our capital grants program is
that we give a portion of the funds to help purchase office
equipment such as computers, fax machines and copiers. By helping
nonprofits increase their efficiency, the DCF helps them achieve
their missions.
