African American Empowerment Fund of Delaware

The mission of the African American Empowerment Fund of Delaware is to establish a legacy of leadership in promoting philanthropy to fund causes important to the education, social and economic empowerment of African American Delawareans.

The initial goal of the AAEFD is to recruit 100 Founders who will pledge $1000 over five years to support our work and mission. Since its official launch in June 2008, more than 70 people have pledged to support the fund. The Trustees of the Longwood Foundation have committed to a dollar for dollar matching grant of up to $50,000 for every dollar we raise through the end of December 2009, so every dollar counts!

Behind the scenes, committees are now being organized in New Castle, Kent and Sussex Counties. Our officers and current committee members are collaborating with organizations and individuals who have similar missions to gain from the experiences of others who have walked down a similar path and to help us grow.

There are many ways you can become involved or contribute to our cause. Whether you want to become a Founder, work with your church or other group to participate, or simply make a small donation every contribution is welcome. To learn more, please talk to one of our members or contact Jane C. W. Vincent, Senior Vice President for Development at the Delaware Community Foundation by calling 302.504.5237 or email jvincent@delcf.org.
