Youth Philanthropy Fund and Youth Philanthropy
Boards
The DCF now has three Youth Philanthropy Boards, one
in each county.
The original board was created in 1999 with funding from the Youth
Philanthropy Fund; it includes students from New Castle County High
Schools and give grants in New Castle County. Phyllis Wynn
established the Youth Philanthropy Fund because she wanted to
encourage youth to become more involved in philanthropic ventures.
In 2003, the DCF took over full administration of the fund, which
has received contributions from individual donors, the Verizon
Foundation, ING DIRECT, Fox and Roach Charities, and others.
Applications
are now available for the 2007-2008 grantmaking program.
New Castle County - Deadline is December 17, 2007
Kent
County - Deadline is January 7, 2008
Sussex County - Deadline is January 7, 2008
The Southern Delaware Youth Philanthropy Fund got
its start in 2004 and included juniors and seniors from Kent and
Sussex County high schools. Their grantmaking benefited
Southern Delaware youth. In 2005 the SDYPB was split into
two groups, one for students from Kent County high schools, the
other for Sussex County high school students.
Students who serve on
the three Youth Philanthropy Boards learn about civic involvement and
effective grantmaking, study youth issues in their neighborhoods and
schools, and develop a grantmaking process for awarding grants to
deserving community organizations that benefit other
youth.
