Scholarship Information


The Delaware Community Foundation is pleased to administer a number of scholarships that benefit Delaware’s students and professionals. Application guidelines for many of these scholarships can be found on this page. Roxana C. Arsht Fellowship

Deadline: May 1

Eligibility: Law students, recent law school graduates and attorneys admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Delaware who plan to work in the public or nonprofit sector in Delaware.

Award Amount: Varies based on funds available.

Helen H. Bennett Scholarship

Contact Information: Information about the scholarship is available on the Delaware Library Association Web site, complete with an application form and a contact person.


Cape Thespian Scholarship

Eligibility: Henlopen High School senior who is pursuing studies in the field of theatre arts.

Richard S. Cordrey Scholarship

Deadline: April 15

Eligibility: Open to seniors who attend a public high school in the Cape Henlopen, Indian River or Sussex Vocational-Technical school districts and have been accepted at a Delaware college or university. A preference will be given to students who will be attending Goldey-Beacom College or Delaware Technical & Community College.

Award amount: $1,000. This is a one-year, one-time award.

Peter A. DeCoursey Memorial Award
(Donald T. DeCoursey Fund)

Deadline: April 26

Eligibility: High School senior enrolled in a Junior Achievement program, completed application, advisor recommendation, and interview. Exceptional leadership ability and enthusiasm to motivate others.

Amount of Award: $1000

Delaware College of Art and Design Enterprise Scholarship


Eligibility: Resident of Wilmington Enterprise Community. Based on high financial need and admission review. The recipient must maintain a 2.0 GPA in order to renew the scholarship.

Del-Mar-Va Council, Boy Scouts of America Scholarship

Barbara H. Dengler Scholarship

Established by the LPGA Urban Youth Golf Program, a subsidiary of McDonald's Kids Charity, to provide college or higher education scholarships for students who have been involved with the golf program.

Deadline: May 31

Eligiblity: Active member of LPGA Urban Youth Golf Program and LPGA Junior Advisory Board.

Award: Varies depending on the number of applicants and awards.

Donald W. & Nancy S. Edwards Scholarship

Eligibility: Students identified through the Upward Bound program at the University of Delaware with demonstrated academic ability and financial need who plan to pursue a four-year college degree.

Daimler Chrysler Scholarship

Eligibility: The applicant must be a Delaware resident, and not older than 23 years of age at the time of applying.  The student must have at least a 2.75 GPA and provide evidence of a commitment to leadership in the community. Applicants must provide two reference letters that describe their leadership skills at school, in the community or with religious organizations.  The applicant must plan to obtain a degree or certificate from a community college, trade school or university in a technical field related to the design, engineering, manufacturing and repair of automotive products, including but not limited to, automotive repair, skilled trades, and engineering.

Award:  $1,000.00 college scholarship assistance for worthy students based on demonstrated academic ability, leadership traits and financial need

Delaware State Golf Association Scholarship Fund

Deadline:  April 1st

 

Eligibility: High School Senior or current college student who is a resident of State of Delaware and a Member or employed by Delaware State Golf Association Club

Helen L. & Douglas C. Eliason Scholarship

The ELiason Scholarship is changing its format and will supply scholarships once a year.  Please contact the Foundation for more information.

Eligibility: Scholarships are awarded to help deserving students lead productive lives and return something to their community. Priority is given to working adults who want to improve their employment potential through continuing education. Low- and moderate-income high school students will also be considered (call in Spring for application for the Fall semester). Scholarships may be used at Delaware-based programs. Aid is available for credit, or non-credit courses in special circumstances.

Foulke Meadow River Lands Scholarship I

Eligibility: West Virginia high school students planning to pursue studies in the College of Agriculture and Forestry at West Virginia University.

Foulke Meadow River Lands Scholarship II

Eligibility: West Virginia high school students planning to major in computer science and electrical engineering at WVU.

Bill Frank Prize for Excellence in Communications
(William P. Frank Scholarship Fund)

Deadline: February 19

Eligibility: Delaware high school seniors active in journalism and/or communication activities, including participation in activities such as school newspapers and magazines and/or television and radio programs. Each high school may nominate one student.

Award: $1,000 (three cash prizes, one to each county)

Fresh Start Scholarship

Eligibility: Women who are returning to school after a hiatus. Candidates must be recommended by a social service agency or guidance counselor, have financial need, and must have been admitted to an accredited Delaware college in a two or four year degree program at the undergraduate level.

Generation III Scholarship

Deadline: April 20, 2007

Eligibility: Open to seniors who plan to pursue an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in business or construction related fields at the University of Delaware, Delaware State University, Delaware Technical and Community College, Goldey Beacom College, Wesley College or Lincoln University. Academic achievement, financial need and field of study will be considered in selecting the recipient. EDiS employees and their family members are not eligible. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required for renewal.

Award amount: $1,000, renewable for up to four years. Two scholarships will be awarded May 25, 2007.

George H. Henry Memorial Scholarship

Deadline: April 1

Eligibility: Open to seniors who attend a public high school in the Cape Henlopen or Capital School District. Students should plan a career in education or teaching in the public school system in the State of Delaware. The manner and method for selecting recipients shall be the sole responsibility of the Board of Trustees of each school district.

Award amount: $500. This is a one-year, one-time award in each of the two school districts.

Governor Minner Biotech Scholarship

Deadline: To be eligible for consideration, applications must be postmarked by March 15th. Applications forms will be available at Delaware Community Foundation, Suite 115, 100 West 10th Street; by writing to Delaware Community Foundation, P. O. Box 1636,  Wilmington, DE 19899; by calling (302) 571-8004 or on our Web site at www.delcf.org.

Eligibility: The recipient must be a Delaware resident and planning to obtain a degree or certificate in the biotech field from either the University of Delaware, Delaware State University or Delaware Technical and Community College.

Award amount: The type and amount of aid shall be at the discretion of the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation.  The goal of the fund is to provide one scholarship annually at each institution.

James Jamieson Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility: Dance students who reside in or study dance in the state of Delaware.                                                                                                                        

The purpose of the James Jamieson Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Delaware Community Foundation is to provide financial assistance to a promising ballet student who aspires to a career in ballet.

Consideration will be given to all facets of the student’s education that would point to a successful professional ballet career. Race, religion or sex will not be a factor in the selection of candidates. Each applicant will be required to submit a short essay on why he or she desires to undertake a career in ballet. Finalists will be required to attend a personal interview and audition.

Each dance school is asked select their best student(s) for the scholarship committee to consider. Each dance school may submit up to two students for consideration.  Please send the application forms and attachments to the Delaware Community Foundation, P.O. Janosik Family  Scholarship

Deadline: February 28th

Eligibility: Open to any student in grade 4- 12  from a school on the Eastern Shore.   A 250 word essay must be written on the lessons learned from reading Back to Basics by Johnny Janosik or Gifted Hands by Dr. Ben Carson.  

Award amount: A $1,000 is awarded payable upon graduation from high school and acceptance at an accredited institute of higher learning

Keisha M. Michael Memorial Scholarship

Deadline: May 31

Eligibility: Open to any senior from a high school in Delaware who has a 2.5 grade point average and will be attending North Carolina Central University or another traditionally back college or university. An essay must be written on how a college education will help the student make an impact upon the community.

Award amount: Varies, depending on GPA and materials submitted. Awardees can reapply after the first year.

Caesar Rodney Rotary Scholarship

Deadline: April 10

Eligibility: Applicant must be a resident of Delaware who attends Cab Calloway School of the Arts or Howard High School of Technology.  Student must have been accepted into an accredited college or university.  

Award amount: The awards shall be made at such times and in such amounts as recommended by the Caesar Rodney Rotary Board of Directors.

The Sally Fund Scholarship

Deadline: February 28th

Eligibility: An educational grant program designed to enhance the educational opportunities for children who learn differently and attend a public or private educational organization who serve children with learning challenges in Sussex County Delaware.  Applications should address the goals and the anticipated outcomes of program improvement or individual interventions in these three basic areas: 

1)    Enhancement of basic life skills 

2)    Enhancement of employment opportunities through 

       occupational therapy or other opportunities 

3)    Use of state of the art educational materials and equipment 

       to enhance the learning process

John J. Ryan Scholarship

Deadline: April 15

Eligibility: Open to seniors at Caesar Rodney High School who have been accepted in any college or university. Students should be planning to have a career in education or teaching. It is expected that all scholarship recipients will seek to improve the quality of life in our society through teaching ideals.

Award amount: $500. This is a one-time scholarship to be paid in January after the successful completion of the student’s first semester in college.

John B. & Marion A. Smitheman Scholarship

Deadline: May 31

Eligibility: Open to seniors at any Kent County public high school who have been accepted to a Delaware college or university. Applicants must aspire to a career in engineering and submit a short statement to that effect.

Award amount: $8,000, to be paid in four equal installments of $2,000 over a four-year period.

Margaret A. Stafford Nursing Scholarship Fund

Deadline: March 31

Eligibility: Delaware resident who has been accepted into an accredited college or university’s nursing program within or outside Delaware, with the intention of pursuing a career in nursing and ensuring that patients’ needs are a priority. A preference will be given to those students most in need of financial support.

Award amount: This is a one-time scholarship of $1,000 . The amount is subject to change in future years.

Wilmington Country Club Centennial Scholarship

Eligibility: Wilmington Country Club caddies, employees, and dependent children of employees pursuing part-time or full-time studies at an accredited educational institution. Financial need, demonstrated academic promise and length of service at the Country Club will be considered. Relatives of Wilmington Country Club members are ineligible. Students may reapply annually.

Youth Opportunity Scholarship

Deadline:  May 31st

Eligibility: Students or former students of Delaware schools who have experienced a chronic illness, lasting six months or longer, that has impaired the individual’s ability to pursue his or her education. Priority will be given to students of the First State School. Scholarship awards will be based on financial need, demonstrated academic promise and potential for success.

Award Amount: Tuition assistance at any academic or vocational qualified institution of higher education within or outside the state of Delaware. Students may reapply annually.

Henry H. Stroud, MD. Memorial Scholarship

Deadline:  March 31st

Eligibility: Eligible candidates shall be Delaware residents who have been accepted at an accredited school of medicine. Scholarship awards shall be based on the applicant's demonstrated commitment to pursuing the highest standards of excellence, ethics, and compassion in the medical profession, as well as his or her academic promise and financial need. Special consideration will be given to applicants demonstrating an entrepreneurial and innovative approach to medicine.  Eligibility will NOT be affected by gender, race or ethnic background, national origin or sexual orientation.

The Henry H. Stroud Md. Memorial Scholarship Fund will be awarded after the determination of other financial assistance and is intended to supplement and not replace other financial support.

While there is no guarantee of continuing support, recipients are eligible to re-apply in successive years, for a maximum of four (4) annual awards. The same criteria will be used in determining renewal awards.

Award Amount:  Varies each year

Scholarship recipients will be chosen by the Henry H. Stroud MD Memorial Scholarship Fund Committee through an objective, competitive process. Applicants will be ranked by each scholarship committee member on the following:

    • Financial need
    • Demonstrated academic promise
    • Recommendation by a teacher, guidance counselor, or other appropriate party
    • Essay

Nanticoke  Rotary Harold Holland Scholarship

 

Deadline:      April 15 - Applications submitted to school guidance counselor 

 

Eligiblity:      Applicant must attend a  Western Sussex Countyschool  and be recommended by a

guidance counselor or teacher based on citizenship qualities, work ethic and service to the community.  Student must write an essay.

 

Award Amount:  $1,000

Nanticoke Rotary Bob LaPrad Scholarship

Deadline:  April 15 - Applications submitted to school guidance counselor

 

Eligiblity:  Eligible students will be those admitted to Delaware Technical and Community College, Owens Campus, who reside at a zip code home address located west of US 113, in Sussex County, Delaware and have chosen to major in the area of technology/engineering

 

Award:      A one time award of $1,000.00.

John Burton Community Service Scholarship

Deadline: April 15 - Applications submitted to school guidance counselor

Eligiblity: Applicant must be attending a Western Sussex County school and be recommended by a guidance counselor or teacher based on citizenship qualities, work ethic and service to the community.  Student must write an essay.

Award amount: $1,000
