The Delaware Community Foundation is a collection of separate funds and resources given by caring citizens who have chosen to make their community a better place to live and work, now and in the future. It was established in 1986 as a vehicle for administering endowments and encouraging deferred gifts to the community. All charitable contributions to this public, nonprofit organization are pooled and invested together to provide lasting income for the benefit of Delawareans. The Foundation administers these permanent endowment funds according to the wishes of the donors, either for the general benefit of the community or for special purposes.
The Delaware Community Foundation is dedicated to inspiring and helping people of all backgrounds and means create lasting legacies to benefit the people of Delaware. To accomplish this mission, the Foundation employs a small, efficient staff that has expertise in planned giving, endowment administration and grantmaking. Staff members are available to work with everyone in the community to help build a solid foundation for Delaware's future.
The Foundation currently manages over $129 million in charitable assets and distributes close to two million dollars annually from more than 345 restricted and unrestricted funds. An endowment fund established at the Delaware Community Foundation is permanent. The principal will always remain intact, while the earnings are reinvested in our community.
