 Fund for Women

The Fund for Women encourages all women to be philanthropists. Since 1994, The Fund has addressed critical needs of women and girls in the State of Delaware. Susan Sherk began her term as chair of the advisory committee on July 1, 2006, succeeding Mary Hickok; previous chairs have been Maxine Rosenthal, Mary Copper, Sandra Dull, Judith Hoopes and Gloria Fine. Fund volunteers have devoted themselves to increasing the number of Founders (women who donate $1,000) and the total amount of grants that are awarded each year.

The Fund typically awards single-year grants relating to the education of girls and women in such areas as health, wellness and life skills which will lead to future economic self-sufficiency. The Fund offer a unique opportunity to obtain seed money for innovative, creative programming. Programs that include collaboration with public, private or other not-for-profit agencies; develop the leadership skills of girls and women; address unmet needs and promote the value of giving will be considered. The Fund for Women does not support capital funding, debt reduction or endowment campaigns.

The Fund For Women accepts applications from non-profit, tax-exempt, (501(c)(3) organizations for programs that address unmet needs, enhance the worth and potential of women and girls in Delaware and help them to lead productive, self-sufficient lives.  FFW grants offer organizations an opportunity to obtain seed money for innovative, creative programming or to continue or expand programs whose effectiveness has been demonstrated.

A total of $117,107 in grants was awarded in May 2007 to 26 programs.  Click here for a list of the organizations that received grants and a brief description of each grant. A news release also is available.
