Gov. Jack Markell has declared Sept. 30 as Fund for Women Day in celebration of the important statewide work of the Delaware Community Foundation’s largest giving circle.

The Fund for Women (FFW) is an endowed fund that provides funding for programs to address the needs of women and girls in Delaware. On Sept. 30, the FFW will host three events – one in each county – beginning with the annual Philanthropy Breakfast at the Wilmington Country Club.

At the Philanthropy Breakfast, the FFW will honor First Lady Carla Markell with its prestigious First Founders Award. This award is given annually to a Founder who has a record of exceptional generosity, demonstrates civic or charitable responsibility, and whose leadership has encouraged others to serve our community.

In Kent County, the celebration will continue with a luncheon at the Biggs Museum in Dover. There, Gov. Jack Markell will present a proclamation declaring it Fund for Women Day, and guests will have lunch with Delaware’s women legislators.

The evening celebration will take place at the Kings Creek Country Club in Rehoboth Beach with a celebration cocktail party with community members, elected officials and Founders.
