Next Generation Presents $16K to NCCo Nonprofits

The Next Generation North (Next Gen North) of the Delaware Community Foundation has awarded $16,100 in grants to help fund science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs at four New Castle County nonprofit organizations.

At a ceremony on Thursday at the University & Whist Club, Next Gen awarded 2016 grants to:

Nativity Prep Students

Nativity Preparatory School of Wilmington (Nativity Prep): $2,500 for textbooks

Nativity Prep is a tuition-free Catholic school where middle school boys from low-income families in Wilmington break the cycle of poverty through an education founded and sponsored by the Oblates of St. Francis De Sales. This year, Next Gen North will fund new science text books for the seventh-grade class, providing students with the most up-to-date and accurate information in the ever-changing STEM field.

makerspaces.” Barrel of Makers offers hands on programs through partnerships with organizations that serve diverse audiences. Next Gen North is providing funds that will be used for tools and materials like 3D printers and computers that can be accessed at Delaware libraries during the Barrel of Makers’ six-part Makers Series program, which runs throughout the year.

science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. The funds from Next Gen North will be used toward supplies for DCM’s Junior Engineers program, which is a series of monthly workshops designed to teach children about various careers in engineering.

Boys & Girls Club of Delaware: $5,000 for Beating Odds Studying Stem (BOSS) program

prevented youth from lower socioeconomic backgrounds by introducing them to robotics, computer programming, digital animation, 3D printing and more.

The mission of Next Gen North is to develop young professionals into effective nonprofit board leaders. Through its fundraising activities, Next Gen North has awarded more than $325,000 to support organizations addressing community needs. This is the third year that the organization has focused on STEM education programs.
