African American Empowerment Fund Awards Three Grants

The African American Empowerment Fund of Delaware has awarded $5,500 to help support three high-quality programs focused on education in our community. The recipients of the AAEFD’s 2018 Education Grants Program are:

One Village Alliance: Propels the most marginalized children and their families on a holistic journey toward excellence through education, entrepreneurship and the arts – $2,500

Nehemiah Gateway/Tennis Rocks Tutoring Program: Provides opportunities for underserved, at-risk youth and families in the Wilmington area to fulfill their maximum potential academically, socially, and physically – $1,500

TeenSHARP: Prepares talented youth of color to attend and thrive at our nation’s most selective colleges and universities – $1,500

“The AAEFD is committed to supporting an environment in which young African Americans can succeed,” said Cynthia Primo Martin, who co-chairs the AAEFD with Lisa Slinkard. “These three awardees stood out among the applicants due to their tremendous dedication to educating Delaware students.”

The AAEFD was formed to establish a legacy of leadership in promoting philanthropy to fund causes important to education, social and economic empowerment of African American Delawareans.

“The Delaware Community Foundation is proud to support the work of the AAEFD to bolster education programs,” DCF President and CEO Stuart Comstock-Gay said. “These recipients share our belief that access to a quality schooling experience builds opportunity for students.”
