Through an annual keynote presentation, we are elevating big ideas and inspiring conversations statewide. The 2019 keynote will feature James and Deborah Fallows, journalists and authors of Our Towns: A 100,000-Mile Journey into the Heart of America. The presentation will be hosted in Wilmington and via two satellite locations in the southern part of our state. Registration opens on September 25, 2019.
For the last five years, the Fallowses have been traveling across America, visiting dozens of towns and meeting hundreds of people. Their 100,000-mile journey brings us stories of communities that are remaking their towns and their lives. These towns are putting big ideas into action – building creative public/private partnerships, restoring downtowns, investing in innovative schools, developing vibrant open spaces and celebrating diversity.
Join hundreds of other Delawareans on November 6 to explore the stories of Delaware towns, and how we are collectively building solutions to our most pressing challenges.
Community leaders and other interested individuals will also have the opportunity to get engaged in this work on the evening of the keynote at our Take Action Fair. At the Fair, attendees will connect with representatives of DCF funds and initiatives that are addressing many of the facets of building opportunity. Some of these initiatives include the Fund for Women, African American Empowerment Fund, Healthy Communities Delaware and Delaware State Parks.
In addition to the keynote we are also supporting statewide Book Circles reading Our Towns. Through this project, the DCF is inspiring conversation by providing up to 500 free books to discussion groups statewide. Learn more.
