COVID-19 Strategic Response Fund Grantees

So far, the Delaware COVID-19 Strategic Response Fund has awarded $3.4 million to more than 150 nonprofit organizations providing services to communities throughout the state.

September Grants

  • Connecting Generations – $10,000 for staff to train volunteers on virtual mentoring.
  • Delaware Zoological Society – $8,000 to purchase video equipment to create a virtual traveling zoo experience.
  • Jewish Family Services – $25,000 to support specialized care for individuals with dementia.
  • Leading Youth Through Empowerment (LYTE) – $15,000 for teachers and curriculum for the fall virtual program.
  • NCALL – $25,000 for a foreclosure prevention program.
  • Ingleside – $25,000 for delivery of meals for frail and low-income seniors.
  • Delaware Theatre Company – $1,750 for technology to provide outdoor theater.
  • Ronald McDonald House – $10,000 for temporary staff to provide guest services normally provided by volunteers. .
  • Harry K Foundation – $13,000 to restock and re-open food pantries statewide that provide for meals for students.
  • Newark Symphony Orchestra – $7,500 for technology to provide virtual symphony programming.
  • The Precision Institute – $2,500 for driving simulation equipment for neurodiverse people.
  • Sewell C. Biggs Trust (Biggs Museum of American Art) – $7,250 for technology, supplies and materials to provide a virtual arts programming.
  • Children & Families First – $25,000 to provide cell phones, tablets and signal boosters for clients receiving virtual services.

August Grants

  • Christina Cultural Arts Center – $18,000 for laptops, projectors and other technology to pivot instruction to a virtual platform. 
  • Delaware HIV Services Inc. – $20,000 for in-home HIV test kits and other resources to enable and expand services in the COVID-19 environment.  
  • Friendship House, Inc. – $25,000 to provide food and case management to homeless people. 
  • Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County – $15,000 to help build 12 homes on Wilmington’s East Side.
  • Harrington Senior Center – $10,000 for facility safety upgrades to improve efficiency, expand capacity, and offer normal programming.  
  • Mispillion Art League, Inc. – $6,000 for computers to continue to provide community-wide access to a quality visual arts program. 
  • OperaDelaware – $8,500 to create a “streamable stage” to allow for virtual programming when outdoor performances are no longer viable. 
  • Public Allies Delaware – $20,000 for materials to support remote work and to provide mental health supports for Allies. 
  • Read Aloud Delaware – $20,000 for technology and other costs to facilitate remote work to accelerate language development in children birth to age 3.  
  • Rodney Street Tennis & Tutoring Association – $6,000 for take-away supply bags for online enrichment courses, life skills, and STEAM activities for school-year programs. 
  • Sojourners’ Place, Inc. – $6,000 for laptops and travel support to provide case management and training for homeless men and women. 
  • TeenSHARP – $40,000 for math and English instructors to provide virtual academic support during the 2020-2021 school year. 

July Grants

  • Delaware Children’s Museum — $20,000 for safety materials for visitors, social distancing signage, sneeze guards and other equipment to ensure a safe reopening.
  • Kent-Sussex Industries — $25,000 for equipment and renovation of program space.
  • Sussex County Habitat for Humanity — $27,440 for technology for various purposes, including a website redesign to integrate online ReStore sales.
  • West End Neighborhood House — $20,086 for an outdoor classroom, disposable masks and a temperature screening system.
  • YMCA Delaware — $50,000 to improve indoor safety and air quality through ventilation and filtration.
  • Code Purple of Kent County — $25,000 for a food truck to deliver food to the homeless in Kent and Sussex County.
  • Delaware Zoological Society — $6,600 for online ticketing software.
  • Developing Artists Collaboration (Dewey Artists) — $3,400 for electronics for the Creative Career Service Program. 
  • Kalmar Nyckel — $5,400 for a virtual field trip program.
  • Serviam Girls Academy — $20,000 to prepare for a safe reopening, including health and safety training for teachers and administration.
  • Historic Lewes Farmers Market — $7,500 for signage and equipment to reopen safely.

Week 11

  • St. Michael’s School & Nursery — $28,000 for cleaning supplies and PPE to safely reopen the Wilmington preschool.
  • Latin American Community Center – $25,000 for emergency assistance for families in New Castle County.
  • YMCA – $25,000 to run the Take on Summer teen program at four YMCA branches in Wilmington.
  • Network Delaware – $25,000 for emergency assistance to immigrant families in Sussex County.
  • Kent-Sussex Industries – $25,000 to modify and restart programs supporting the developmentally disabled.
  • Vision to Learn – $20,000 for eyeglasses for low-income children in New Castle County.
  • Holy Rosary Catholic Church Outreach – $20,000 for food for families in Claymont.
  • Delaware First Media – $16,000 for infrastructure and technology to support increased news coverage of COVID-19.
  • Delaware Volunteer Legal Services – $15,442 for technology to provide legal services to clients statewide.
  • Partners for Justice – $15,000 to support social services and legal services to low-income people in New Castle County. 
  • Life Center Complex – $15,000 for technology and staff to provide behavioral telehealth services in New Castle County.
  • The Grand Opera House – $15,000 for a touchless ticketing system to facilitate safe cultural arts activities.
  • Reading Assist Institute – $15,000 to support AmeriCorps members providing one-on-one reading intervention for low-income children in New Castle County.
  • Better Tomorrows – $13,000 for food for families in Wilmington. 
  • Delaware Symphony Orchestra – $12,500 for video editing equipment to facilitate virtual programming.
  • Exceptional Care for Children – $10,388 for cleaning and respiratory therapy supplies for medically fragile children.
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware – $10,000 to support e-mentoring statewide.
  • CAMP Rehoboth – $10,000 for communication technology and programming for LGBTQ seniors.
  • Mental Health Association – $6,221 for technology to provide virtual mental health services to clients statewide.
  • Arden Club – $4,000 for equipment to video livestream arts and cultural events.
  • Coastal Concerts – $3,150 to operate the Lewes-based classical music organization.
  • Serenity Place – $3,000 for a freezer for the substance abuse treatment residence in Dover.
  • Delaware Historical Society – $2,000 for technology to facilitate remote work.
  • Lutheran Church of Our Savior – $1,500 for the Rehoboth Beach church to transition its ESL program to a virtual program.
